Last weekend, I went birding with a good friend. It was a warm day for North Michigan (as in, the first day above 10 degrees F in weeks). I told her, “I doubt we’ll see any egrets or herons yet, it’s too cold.” Well, in one of the marshes that has just started thawing, I saw the following, and painted this in hopes that spring will be here soon (it is snowing here as I type).

I chose the title because the water thawing, and the heron, are both early signs of spring here in the north. I painted this with my usual palette.
Now, I am waiting eagerly for the egrets to return, too!
