A few weeks ago, I saw this man walking around with two birds perched on his arm and shoulder. I knew I had to paint him, asked permission to take his photo, and he agreed. Tom now has a portrait that shows his love for his birds, and gave me permission to post this onContinue reading “Portrait of a Bird Lover (acrylic)”

Recently, I painted a portrait of a friend. Because she is an encourager, and gives prophetic words to others, when I thought of her, I saw her giving out honey – so that’s how I painted her.
Dog Portrait: HoneyDoo
I love dogs, and grew up around many, so doing dog portraits is something I have done all my life. This little cutie is a Golden Doodle (half Golden Retriever, half standard poodle) puppy at 4 months old. Her name is HoneyDoo, and she is truly a sweet – and quite lively- puppy.

The portrait is finally done. For some reason, my camera picked up more yellow than is in the original. I added yet more details to the face, softened transitions, added more details to the dog’s fur. The pit bull was painted with raw umber, burnt sienna and ultramarine blue for darks; and yellow ochre, burntContinue reading “Portrait Day 7”
Portrait Day 3
Today, I added some highlights, shadows, and more detail, especially to the girl. I am also adding more colors to the dog’s coat. I am trying to keep my light consistent in the background and on the objects; it’s a warm mix of cad. yellow med., yellow ochre, and titanium white. It’s starting to comeContinue reading “Portrait Day 3”
