A couple of weeks ago, when walking on the beach, I came across a group of sanderlings migrating south. One was exceptionally cute, and this painting is the result.

As usual, I painted this with a limited palette of Tit. white, ultramarine blue, yellow ochre, burnt ochre, burnt sienna and a touch of payne’s gray. The sanderlings were adult nonbreeding birds, and should be in warmer climes by now!

Love this painting. And I love Sanderling too. Here is a haiku of mine which I Hope complements it …
on the beach the ebb and flow of sanderling
What a great poem; I also love the beautiful art you post on your site!
Thank you 🙏. They really are beautiful birds and your paining captures them perfectly. I try and match my haiku with suitable paintings. Not always easy to find just the ‘right’ one. Glad you like them.
