  • Faith 2

Because I sold my “Faith” painting awhile back, I decided to repaint it, with a slightly different emphasis. Here is Faith 2: “Faith 2”, oil, 16 X 20, canvas wrap.

  • “Praise” oil painting

This week I set up a still life with some praise instruments from my church. I decided to use a limited palette, with warm tones for a more intimate feeling. This is the final painting. “Praise” original oil, 16 X 20.

  • Blue Jay Painting

I love blue jays, so couldn’t resist painting this one. The colors scanned brighter blue than in my original oil painting (I am still learning about color adjusting), but this shows the overall effect.   I hope you enjoy him!

  • Going Home (oil painting)

I love horses, and worked on a horse ranch a few years ago. Here’s  a picture of a friend walking his horse (a Tennessee Walker) into the barn at the end of the day. “Going Home” oil, 16 X 20

  • What Michigan Artists Do in the Winter

The past few weeks it has snowed a LOT. Here’s a picture of what it looks like outside my front door: Since before moving here two years ago, I lived in warmer climates (California, and then Texas), I was amazed by the amount of snow that falls – and stays – each winter. The landscape…

  • New Gallery

I am very pleased that some of my art was accepted at Art Reach Center in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. They have some wonderful art there, and it’s well worth visiting if you are in the area. Kim, the Director, is very knowledgeable, and has her own art there. Yay! Now my art is at three…

  • Lake Michigan: Symphony in Blue

I love painting water, and in this one, I wanted to play with the range of blues in the evening (I went semi-abstract). I used cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, alizarin crimson, burnt sienna, cad. red light and titanium white; along with sap green and cad yellow light for the palette.

  • The Feast of Tabernacles

As a messianic (Jewish) Christian, I enjoy this time of year more than any other. As a child, I lived for a time in Israel, and once the Day of Atonement is past (last weekend), the tabernacles start going up. These are small, temporary shelters (sukkah) which are erected for this Thursday’s celebration of Sukkot,…

  • Birds of Michigan Series: Winter Partners

I love to paint birds, and winter scenes, so this painting combines these two. One is a sparrow, the other a chickadee. What I love about the sparrow is the fact that his posture reminds me of a “grumpy old man” sitting there on the bush.  These guys came to the feeders last winter, and…

  • Learning to Use a Palette Knife: Mountain Waterfall

I am finally learning to use a palette knife for the first time. I like it, but realize it will take time to master using one. I particularly like the effects on rocks. So, I chose a rocky scene (one a friend shot in Colorado) for this landscape. Water is my favorite thing to paint,…

  • Ferns

One thing I’ve discovered about living in Michigan that is VERY different from Texas is the ferns. They are everywhere, especially when you live in a state forest like I do. They grow like weeds here, but are pretty. I think that the ferns and moss (my lawn in the front is actually partially moss)…
