  • Art Fair Fun

The art fair this past weekend was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed meeting other bird and art lovers; the sales were decent, and I started an email list. The best part was just getting to know people who really believe in saving our habitat and who enjoy birdwatching as much as I do!

  • Great Egret, Misery Bay

In early May, the marshes are still clothed in the ochres and creams of fall, and it is not unusual to see a great egret going through them. This was one that I saw in early May this year, and I thought he was absolutely lovely! “Beautiful Visitor, Misery Bay”; acrylic, 16 X 20 inches.

  • Osprey Resting

I think ospreys are beautiful, and wanted to paint one that I saw near Houghton Lake in Michigan a few weeks ago. I watched while he ate a fish he had caught, and then continued resting for a bit in a tree near the water. “Osprey Resting on a Log” acrylic 16 X 20 inches.

  • AuSable Exhibit

The other day, I was going through Grayling, and saw that my artwork is now up at the AuSable Artisan Village gallery. They did a really nice job with the exhibit, and there are some incredible artists there, as well as being genuinely nice people. Plus, the coffee is good – a huge plus for…

  • Art Fair Next Week

In ten days, the first art fair of the spring that I will have a booth in will be held. It will be in Rogers City, and I have been busy getting prints ready, framing paintings, printing fine art cards and taking care of all the tasks to prepare. I am a bit nervous, too,…

  • Morning Visitor: acrylic painting

I have been experimenting with painting lights and darks, using a limited palette of yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, burnt umber and titanium white. This little sparrow was sitting on a rock in my yard recently, and I wanted to capture the moment. Moments like this remind me of the beauty of God’s creation.

  • Bunnykins in the Grass

This summer, I came across Bunnykins (the young rabbit that visits my feeder in the wintertime). He was sitting in the grass by the side of the road, looking sleek and happy. I knew it was bunnykins due to his coloring, and the fact that he was not shy at all when I walked near,…

  • Kingfisher: Acrylic painting

I have been very busy with work and getting for an art fair next week, but I did finish a painting of a kingfisher. This was done in acrylic, and is based on a sighting in Presque Isle several weeks ago. There is a marsh near the lighthouse where these birds hang out during the…

  • Sandhills Flying: Acrylic Painting

I think that sandhill cranes are beautiful birds, especially in flight when the markings on their wings can be seen. This is a fairly common sight over the marshes and fields of Michigan. I decided to paint this pair flying in a deep blue sky to show the complement between their ochre red-orange colors and…

  • Goldfinch in late winter

I think that goldfinches are lovely birds. This past winter, I was house-sitting for a friend (she has three adorable dogs that require special care since they are getting older) and got an unexpected bonus: I saw this little fellow perched on a rail right outside the window. My friend is an avid birdwatcher, too,…
